What happens next?
 

As you might expect, there’s a lot of detail involved in planning a scheme on this scale – and our team are working hard to move it forward. Below are a few of the project’s key milestones – to help you keep track of our progress.
 

  • Select an architectural team – Autumn/Winter 2009 - DONE
     
  • We’re required by European law to follow a set process for this 
     
  • Secure planning permission – Early 2010 - DONE
     
  • We’ll be working closely with the Council’s planning officers to make sure everything goes smoothly 
     
  • Finalise our funding bids – Spring 2010 - DONE
     
  • A project on this scale depends on a complex package of funding from several sources 
     
  • Demolish the old building – Spring 2010 
     
  • We will contract for this work as soon as we get planning permission 
     
  • Construction work begins – Summer 2010 
     
  • This involves following a complex legal process as well as site surveys and preparation work before building can start 
     
  • Open the building – Scheduled for late 2011 
     
  • We’re working hard to provide a fantastic new resource for our community. The final opening date will depend on a number of factors, including site conditions and weather during construction.
